pregnancy and parenting

Some parenting proverbs…

  • Trying to tidy with a toddler is like attempting to sweep leaves in the presence of a hurricane
  • If you pour it, they will spill it; if you change it, they will dirty it; if you find it, they will lose it
  •  Suspect silence
  • The best tantrums always happen in the most public of places
  • Sleep: when you most need it, they will most break it,when they most need it, they will most fight it,
when you don’t want them to, it’s then they will take it.
  • When going anywhere, expect to go backwards before you go forwards, and then expect to go backwards again
  • When going anywhere, expect an emergency toilet stop at the least accessible, least viable point in the trip…or five minutes after you last asked
  •  Pulling a child away from a playground is like pulling a tooth from a mouth
  •  There is always more to pack
  •  If you have more than one child, double everything I’ve said above.
  • Despite the disorder, despite the mess, despite the silence-isn’t-golden, despite the tantrums, despite the wake-sleep-wake-sleep cycle, despite the backwards-before-forwards, despite the toil in toilet stops, despite the playground anarchy, despite the pack-pack-packing, despite it all and more, I wouldn’t change a thing. I love you more than 1-10 multiplied, E, W and J. x
